The webpage displays an outline of a map of South Africa. At the top of the map is a list of all the themes within which all the CAGE research papers are categorised.

When you select a particular theme from the list by clicking on the arrow on the right-hand side, the location(s) and the name of the institute(s) that CAGE has funded to carry out research on that particular theme are highlighted on the map. You can then click on any of these institutes: the title/synopsis of the research and a link to the pdf(s) pops up as well as a smaller map of the African continent highlighting (in blue) the geographical areas covered by the research. If the research only focuses on South Africa, the relevant parts of the original map are highlighted in blue and the African continent map does not pop up.

For example,
  • You want to see what research has been carried out on poverty and inequality in South Africa.
  • You select the theme ‘Policy Gaps’ from the dropdown list.
  • The map will highlight all the institutes that have produced research on this theme. For example, three institutes: one in Cape Town, one in Johannesburg and one in Pretoria.
  • You are interested in what research has been produced by one of the institutes in Cape Town, for example UCT.
  • You click on UCT in the Organisations list.
  • When you click on UCT, the title of the piece of research pops up on the left which is also a link to the actual pdf(s),as well as a link to a synopsis of the research.
  • The geographical coverage of the actual research content is highlighted in blue – either on the South African map, and/or on the Africa map.
